PARTICIPATION
TSF offers participatory projects for schools and community groups. We encourage people of all ages to take part in drama and other arts activities to develop their creative skills and enrich their lives. Please find below information on current participatory projects that are available. Please note that most of these are only available to schools and community groups in North East England but do contact us if you have a particular request and we will see what we can do.

SARAH KEMP

Participatory projects are coordinated by Sarah Kemp who has an MEd. in drama across the curriculum in schools and a PhD researching drama with older adults. Sarah is also an Arts Award advisor for Bronze and Silver Awards and TSF supports Artsmark projects in schools.
COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION
ADULT DRAMA GROUP IN HEXHAM
Leader: Sarah Kemp
Sarah runs an adult drama group based at Queen's Hall Arts Centre in Hexham. The group meets during the day and particularly welcomes older people. The aim of the group is to develop drama and theatre skills through gentle physical movement, games and playful improvisation. We also run masterclasses with directors and performers from other companies. From time to time the group creates and puts on performances. See below for some examples of recent productions we have made. We also have a partnership with a group of older adults making theatre in Amsterdam, who visited Hexham in 2022. The Adult Drama group reciprocated  in October 23 with a visit to the Netherlands and a  warmly received performance of Make Do and Mend in Amsterdam.

Current workshops every Tuesday 17th September - November 2024 at 1.15pm

New members are always welcome, contact sarah@tsf.org.uk for more information.

BROKEN PIECES
In Autumn 2019, the group produced and toured Broken Pieces, written by A. C. Smith and originally commissioned for the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts’ (RADA), Elders Theatre Company in 2014. The play tells the story of Barbara, whose world revolves around archaeology. Now it is turned upside down by the disappearance in Egypt of her husband Harold: her partner in both her life and work.

Broken Pieces chronicles Barbara’s bittersweet process of remembering – tracing backwards through time to uncover, reclaim and honour both Barbara’s own experiences and Harold, the great love of her life. This was the play’s North East premiere. The production was supported by the Northumberland Cultural Fund. It was produced in association with Queen's Hall Arts and Northumberland Libraries.

PARTICIPATORY PROJECTS WITH SCHOOLS AND YOUNG PEOPLE
SCHOOLS & CREATIVE LEARNING
Please also see the LEARNING RESOURCES  page of the website for more exciting ways to deliver language learning in your classroom.

You can download a leaflet about our work with young people.

TSF often runs workshops alongside productions for schools. Please and enquire about this when booking a performance for your school.

We also run projects specific to an individual school's needs and interests, frequently using Mantle of the Expert techniques. We use drama to explore different areas of the curriculum eg. History, English, Science and Languages.

TSF believes that an engagement with languages outside the traditional classroom environment is key to a lifelong love of language learning. Here are some examples of participatory language projects in schools, please contact us if you are interested in seeing what might be possible in your school.

If you would like to discuss any of these projects further,
please contact Sarah Kemp on 01434 603114 or email sarah@tsf.org.uk.
