Théâtre Sans Frontières is an award-winning international touring theatre company based in Tynedale, Northumberland. TSF works with actors from the UK and around the globe to bring its audiences engaging stories brimming with energy and excitement. We produce theatre for children and adults that ranges from the light hearted family entertainment of productions like Le Moulin Magique to the thought-provoking and moving Lipsynch, a multilingual co-production with the internationally renowned Canadian actor, playwright and director, Robert Lepage, who is also the company's patron.
TSF is renowned for its vibrant and visually-driven productions which are made accessible to all through mime, mask, puppetry, clowning, dance and live music.
In 2007, TSF began work on its co-production Lipsynch, with Robert Lepage and his company Ex Machina. This nine-hour epic production opened at the Barbican in 2008 and then toured globally until 2012. Lipsynch won two awards for its performances in 2009: the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Touring Production at the Luminato Festival from the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts; and the Golden Mask for Best Foreign Production in Russia.
TSF has also won awards for: Candide - Winner, Spirit of the Edinburgh Fringe Award 1992 and Runner-up, Northern Electric Award Arts Award 1993; Notre Dame de Paris - Winner, Northern Electric Arts Award 1994; Around the World in 80 Minutes - CiLT Winner, Innovation in Modern Foreign Language Teaching Award 2006; Marie Curie and the Discovery of Radium - CiLT Highly Commended, Innovation in Modern Foreign Language Teaching Award 2010; Louis Pasteur and the Devastating Germs - The British Academy Schools Language Award (BASLA) for its work with St. Thomas More School - an interactive and participatory drama, French and Science project in 2015.
