Striking Canary Gold in Tenerife

Paddy Burton, Sophie Millon and I flew to Tenerife late November to continue working on developing Canary Gold  with Teatro Tamaska, long standing collaborators with TSF who also studied with Philippe Gaulier and Monika Pagneux in Paris. Along with Director Carlos Belda (who performed in TSF's early award-winning piece Notre Dame de Paris in the 90s) and co-actor Fefi Suárez (who appeared in Islands), they spent five days re-writing the script and bringing some new material into the process. Much fun was had investigating the American politicians Sarah Palin and Ron Paul while I wrestled with some beautifully complicated Purcell - we very much missed Jack Burton, our composer and musical director who is currently rehearsing panto in North Yorks! We were pleased to meet up with ace technician Dimas who helped tour Islands in Cyprus and the Canaries in 2010 and who will be working on this tour.

Later in the week, we were joined by Sarah Kemp, as Dramaturg, and Alison Ashton who is designing the costumes and set, currently being built in the north east.

Can’t wait for rehearsals to start in Hexham next January. Watch this space!
