John shows his hand

John Cobb, TSF joint artistic director, was asked last year by Robert Lepage to stand in for Marcello Magni (of Theatre Complicité) in the recent Ex Machina production of COEUR (Hearts), which had its North American premiere in Montreal this January. The show was staged to full houses in La Tohu, a 1200 seater circular venue on the outskirts of the city close to Le Cirque du Soleil's headquarters. Marcello was unable to perform in the coming tour due to commitments in Japan and with Peter Brook. John had the good fortune to play opposite Kathryn Hunter in her debut with Robert's company. COEUR is the second part of Robert Lepage's four piece series of plays devised around the suites of playing cards. COEUR follows the story of French involvement in Algeria in the 19th century and in the post-war period. The show, in French, Arabic and English, will tour to Châlons-en-Champagne, France, in April and Sao Paulo, Brazil, in October.
